All Southern Scholars will be required to commit at least three
hours per week to volunteering for a cause that is meaningful to them. Scholars are welcome to either volunteer through an existing nonprofit organization or community service agency or they may design their own service projects. Southern Scholars will happily sponsor approved Scholar-designed projects.
Given that such an important part of Dr. Pressey's legacy is giving back to those in need, this aspect of the Southern Scholars Initiative is critically important.
All scholars who maintain good academic standing and successfully volunteer for at least 118 hours during the academic year will be invited to participate in the annual summer travel experience.
